Like any form of advertising you can blow a lot of money on Facebook ads if you don't get your targeting right. Discover how you can grow your audience and increase e-course sales.

The other thing to consider is that Facebook is intrusive marketing. In other words people don't necessarily go onto Facebook to search for and buy a product, service online course etc.

Facebook is where people go to connect with family and friends and check out what's new in the world.

Therefore, in order to be successful using Facebook ads you must have a strategy in place.

In this interview, Drew Eberlin shares some valuable insights on how you should plan and execute your Facebook marketing campaigns.

Step 1: Establish Your Online Persona

If you're not tech savvy your website doesn't have to be elaborate. It can be a simple WordPress site with an 'About Me' section, links to your social media profile and an opt-in.

Get this up and happening sooner rather than later.

Step 2: Setup a Facebook Business Page

This page must be separate to your personal page for a couple of reasons.

Firstly it's important to have a professional profile just about your business that people can find online if they search for you.

Secondly, you will need a Facebook Business page to associate your Facebook ads to.

So it is a requirement.

Step 3a: Introduce Yourself To Your New Audience

If you don't have an audience the next step is to start posting some history about yourself so people can start to get to know you, then follow up with tips and tricks, links to blog posts etc., that provide a level of value to your audience.

Step 3b: Set Up Your Custom Audience

If you already have a list you and import that into Facebook and set up a custom audience.

Step 4: Gauge Your Audience

It's important to ensure that your targeting is on track otherwise you can spend a lot of money with very little result.

At this stage, you should try split testing your ads, driving them to an opt-in or to a premium product offering.

If your conversions are low then you can try to tweak your targeted audience.

Targeting Your Audience

There are some very clever ways that you can target the audiences of leaders and influencers in your niche. For example, if you're an internet marketer you could target people who like Eben Pagan or other big names in the industry.

Or if you are into personal development you could send out a targeted ad to a selection of people who like Tony Robins. This makes Facebook ads extremely powerful.

Pixels and Retargeting

You can place a small piece of code on your site that will inform Facebook every time someone visits your site or a specific page on your site. Once Facebook has compiled enough data you can send targeted ads to these people.

What Size Audience Should You Target?

Ideally you have identified a general demographic the person you'd like to see your ad. Country, age bracket and interests are ways to narrow down the size of your audience.

Ideally you want your Facebook ad audience to be between 400,000 and 750,000. Anything more than that your audience will be too broad and results will be harder to come by.
